Joni Mitchell reclaims the No.1 spot!

Plus: Conan Gray & Regina Spektor both debut in the Top Ten!

Joni Mitchell’s Court and Spark returns to the number-one spot on hit Weekly Top Fifty as it sells a further 75,000 units (up 5 percent). The album – which was certified Platinum last week – has now spent two weeks at the top spot.

Kate Bush’s Hounds of Love falls to No.2 after two weeks in pole position, dropping by 25 percent to 58,000 sold. The art-pop masterpiece has now sold over 900,000 copies, earning it Triple Platinum status! Bush has now achieved this status with all of the following albums:

  1. 7 x Platinum – The Whole Story (1986)
  2. 3 x Platinum – The Red Shoes (1993); The Sensual World (1989); Hounds of Love (1985).

Harry Styles repeats at No.3 once again with his two-week chart-topper Harry’s House, on sales of 46,000 units (down 15 percent). The album has now become the first hit released in 2022 to be certified 2 x Platinum for selling over 600,000 units to date. It is Styles’s second effort to achieve Multi-Platinum status, following 2019’s Fine Line which has been certified 5 x Platinum to date.

Conan Gray nabs the week’s highest start as his sophomore set Superache opens at No.4, moving 44,000 in its first week. It trails his debut which launched in the runner-up position in Spring 2020; the Platinum-certified Kid Krow re-enters the Top Fifty this week at No.24 with 13,000 sold.

Adele caps the Top Five as seventeen-week-leader 30 descends 4-5, shifting a further 41,000 copies (down seven percent).

Outside the Top Five: HAIM’s Women in Music Pt. III descends 5-6 (39,000 units – down 7 percent); Regina Spektor’s new Home, Before and After equals her best showing with a No.7 start (30,000 units); Florence + the Machine bullet at No.8 with Dance Fever (26,000 units – up 4 percent); Sam Fender’s Seventeen Going Under slides 6-9 (26,000 units – down 19 percent); Kate Bush’s The Sensual World maintains its position at No.10 (24,000 units – down 4 percent).

Onto Next Week: While Joni Mitchell’s Court and Spark should be headed for a third week at the summit (with roughly 70,000 units), Adele’s 30 could earn over 50,000 following her two shows at BST over the weekend!

No.11 The Whole Story / Kate Bush’s 1986 compilation album has now become only the fourth album in history to spend a full year (156 weeks) inside the L.dK Weekly Top Fifty! It follows Stevie Nicks’s Bella Donna (198 weeks); Annie Lennox’s Diva (178 weeks); and Ariana Grande’s Sweetener (163 weeks).

No.16 – Boys for Pele / Tori Amos’s third album (1996) is now her third record to be certified (at least) Silver, following Little Earthquakes (4 x Platinum); Under the Pink (Platinum); and Ocean to Ocean (Gold).

No.18 – Twelve Deadly Cyns / Cyndi Lauper’s 1993 best-of collection peaked at No.11 in January, and has sold steadily since, allowing it to earn sales of 300,000 to date, making it Lauper’s third Platinum-certified hit, following She’s so Unusual (6 x Platinum); and True Colors (Platinum).

No.49 Little Earthquakes / Tori Amos’s debut album joins a select few albums as it tallies a full second year in the Weekly Top Fifty. It is currently the 18th longest-charting LP of all time!

Kate Bush crowns Weekly Top Fifty for second week!

Plus: Sam Fender returns to Top Ten; Foals nab first Top Ten hit!

Kate Bush scores a second consecutive week atop the L.dK Weekly Top Fifty with Hounds of Love, as the album sells a further 77,000 copies (down 21 percent). The hit is now the longest-running chart-topper from the Queen of Art-Pop.

Bush places two further albums inside the Top Ten: The Whole Story best-of retreats 6-7 with 26,000 sold (down 7 percent); and The Sensual World slides 7-10 with 25,000 sold (up 4 percent). The former collection has now been certified 7 x Platinum for selling a whopping 2.1 million!

Joni Mitchell’s Court and Spark stays at No.2 after earlier spending a week at number-one, moving 71,000 copies (down 1 percent). The jazzy set has now been certified Platinum for selling more than 300,000 units. Harry Styles repeats at No.3 with the two-week-leader Harry’s House, shifting 54,000 units (down 13 percent). Adele’s 30 keeps at No.4 on sales of 44,000 copies (down 6 percent). Rounding out the Top Ten, HAIM’s Women in Music Pt. III maintains its position of No.5, with 42,000 copies sold (down 5 percent); the album has now been certified Triple Platinum for shifting over 900,000 copies.

Outside the Top Ten: Sam Fender’s Seventeen Going Under spikes 12-6 (32,000 units – up 68 percent); and Florence + the Machine’s Dance Fever elevates 9-8 (25,000 units – up 13 percent).

Foals score their first Top Ten album this week as Life is Yours premieres at No.9 with first-week sales of 25,000 copies.

Onto Next Week: Both Conan Gray and Regina Spektor are headed for bows inside the Top Five with Superache and Home, Before and After, with both albums tracking to sell roughly 50,000 copies in their debut frames. No.17 folklore / Taylor Swift’s landmark indie-pop release which domianted 2020 and 2021 has now become her first album to chart for 100 weeks! It is a rare achievement that only nineteen other albums have managed.

No.19 – Mirage / Fleetwood Mac’s 1982 album returns to L.dK Weekly on the 45-year anniversary of its original release, selling 15,000 copies. The hit peaked at No.2 in 2017 and has since been certified Double Platinum for selling over 600,000 copies.

No.30 – Future Nostalgia: Moonlight Edition / Dua Lipa’s lockdown juggernaut has now sold a mind-boggling 3.3 million units, becoming just the fifth album ever to achieve this!

No.40 Under the Pink / Tori Amos’s sophomore album has now become her second release to be certified Platinum, following its retrospective release in February 2021.

Kate Bush: Running Up That Hill to No.1!

Plus: Cher goes Platinum!

Kate Bush collects her second chart-topper this week as Hounds of Love – originally released in 1985 – flies to the top spot, becoming the 83rd album to reach No.1 on the L.dK Weekly Top Fifty. Hounds sold 97,000 copies this week, jumping by 27 percent from the previous week where it shifted 76,000 units. To date, the album has moved over 800,000 units.

Hounds is Bush’s second album to reach number-one, following her 1980 record Never for Ever which claimed the crown in mid-2019. The album originally topped out at No.4 in 2017, before springing to a then-new high of No,3 two weeks ago following the viral success of “Running Up That Hill”.

To date, the alternative icon has scored two chart-topping albums, while sending five efforts into the Top Five, seven into the Top Ten, and placing ten albums inside the Top Twenty! Her chart history is as follows:

  • Hounds of Love – No.1 for one week

Joni Mitchell retreats 1-2 with the jazz-pop infused Court and Spark, after the hit spent a week at the summit. It sold 72,000 units this week (down 12 percent). Harry Styles’s Harry’s House dips 2-3 after spending two weeks at number-one, selling 62,000 copies (down 17 percent). House has now sold more than half-a-million copies since release.

Adele’s 30 rebounds 5-4, shifting 47,000 copies (down 4 percent) after previously ruling for seventeen non-consecutive weeks. It became the fastest-selling album ever upon its release in November (650,000 units) and set the record for the fastest album to sell 1 million (three weeks); 2 million (12 weeks); and 3 million copies (29 weeks).

HAIM round out the Top Five this week as their one-week-leader Women in Music Pt. III sinks 4-5 on sales of 44,000 copies (down 14 percent).

Beyond the Top Five: Tracy Chapman’s chart-topping self-titled set repeats at No.8 (23,000 units – down 11 percent); Florence + the Machine’s former-number-one Dance Fever tumbles 6-9 (22,000 units – down 22 percent); and Cher’s If I Could Turn Back Time collection holds at No.10 after peaking at No.7 (21,000 units – down 4 percent). Time has now been certified Platinum for selling over 300,000 copies, becoming the singer’s third record to achieve this.

Onto Next Week: Kate Bush’s Hounds of Love could be bound for a second week ontop with sales of 70-80k units. Mitchell’s Court and Spark should produce a similar figure, and could challenge for a return to the top spot.

No.15 Boys for Pele / Tori Amos’s third studio album (1996) launches at No.15 with first week sales of 18,000 copies, notching the alternative singer her fourth consecutive Top Twenty hit. Her debut (Little Earthquakes) and sophomore (Under the Pink) records rise to No.25 and No.39 respectively.

No.16 – Blue Banisters / Lana Del Rey’s eighth studio album ruled the roost for three weeks in late 2021, and has since spent thirty-four consecutive weeks inside the Top Twenty. This week it climbs from No.20 to No.16 and becomes Del Rey’s fourth album to sell more than 1.5 million copies, following Norman Fucking Rockwell! (5.18 million); Lust for Life (2.90 million); and Chemtrails Over the Country Club (1.95 million).

No.43 – Happier than Ever / Billie Eilish’s sophomore album ticks 45-43 this week, and becomes the singer’s first album to be certified Multi-Platinum, with sales of just over 600,000 to date. Both her debut EP (don’t smile at me) and album (WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?) have achieved Platinum status.

Joni Mitchell HITS NO.1 WITH COURT AND SPARK!

Plus: Adele’s 30 topples another record!

Joni Mitchell collects her second chart-topping album this week as Court and Spark lifts 2-1 in its second week, selling 82,000 units (down just 5 percent). The hit has now been certified Gold for selling over 100,000 copies, becoming Mitchell’s fifth record to achieve this following Blue (6 x Platinum); Clouds, Ladies of the Canyon, and Both Sides Now, which have also been certified Gold. Spark is the 82nd album in L.dK Weekly History to reach the number-one spot.

Harry Styles’s Harry’s House slips to No.2 after spending its first two weeks in pole position. Sales dipped by 27 percent this week, as the LP drew a further 76,000 units. It has sold just over 450,000 in its three weeks on sale!

Kate Bush holds at a No.3 highpoint with Hounds of Love as the album sells 75,000 copies, marking an increase of 7 percent from the previous week. Bush’s The Whole Story meanwhile swings 12-7, selling 27,000 units (up 28 percent).

HAIM are unmoved at No.4 with their former chart-topping Women in Music Pt. III, shifting 51,000 units (down 9 percent).

Adele anchors this week’s Top Five with her juggernaut comeback record, 30. The album moved a further 49,000 copies this week (up 4 percent) and has now moved a staggering 3.04 million units to date. It becomes the fastest album ever to reach Diamond status, doing so in just twenty-nine weeks, passing Taylor Swift’s folklore which needed thirty-four weeks to achieve the same feat.

Harry Styles HOLDS ONTO NO.1!

Harry Styles claims a second week at No.1 on the L.dK Weekly Top Fifty as Harry’s House earns a further 104,000 units in its sophomore frame – it marks a 62 percent drop from its debut of 274,000. The album has now been certified Platinum for selling over 300,000 copies, becoming the singer’s second record to do so, following 2019’s Fine Line (5 x Platinum).

House is currently just the second album ever by a solo male artist to spend multiple weeks at the top spot; Sam Fender’s Seventeen Going Under holds the record for most weeks in pole position by a male, with four earlier this year.

Joni Mitchell’s Court and Spark (1974) shoots on the Top Fifty at No.2 with first-week sales of 86,000 units, marking Mitchell’s highest sales week to date. Court is also the singer-songwriter’s fourth album to reach the Top Five, following 1968’s Song to a Seagull (No.2); 1969’s Clouds (No.3); and 1971’s Blue which ruled for a total of twenty-one weeks. Ladies of the Canyon (1970) and Both Sides Now (2000) both peaked inside the Top Twenty. The previously mentioned Blue climbs 10-8 in its 66th week, selling 23,000 copies (up 9 percent) as it becomes just the 21st album in history to reach sales of 2 million units.

Kate Bush celebrates a hugely successful week following the viral success of ‘Running Up That Hill’. Parent album Hounds of Love skyrockets 50-3 with 72,000 copies sold (up 1,100 percent) to reach its highest position ever after peaking at No.4 back in 2017. It also records the largest single upward movement in L.dK Weekly History! The seminal album has now sold just under 650,000 copies, becoming Bush’s fourth album to achieve Multi-Platinum status. It joins The Whole Story (6 x Platinum); The Red Shoes (3 x Platinum); and The Sensual World (2 x Platinum).

It isn’t just Hounds that benefits this week, as Bush’s entire catalogue recieves a huge uplift in sales. Harry Styles SCORES 2022’S BIGGEST START WITH HARRY’S HOUSE!

Plus: New certifications for Florence + the Machine and Tracy Chapman!

Harry Styles logs the largest debut of 2022 so far as his latest hit, Harry’s House, premieres with a staggering 274,000 units, comprising of 238,000 pure sales and a further 36,000 pre-sales. It passes Florence + the Machine’s Dance Fever which drew 230,000 units just last week, and also tops The Weeknd’s Dawn FM (130,000 units) for the largest pure sales bow of the annum. It is the biggest launch since Adele’s 30 sold a record 650,000 units in its first week in November 2021.

House earns Styles his second number-one album; a feat achieved by only one other male artist – The Weeknd has reached No.1 with 2020’s After Hours, and the previously mentioned Dawn. House follows Styles’s Fine Line which debuted at the top spot in December 2019, eventually becoming a chart mainstay, and selling in excess of 1.6 million copies, making it the bestselling album of all time by a male artist. Fine also vaults back into the Top Ten this week, surging 14-8 with 22,000 copies sold (up 37 percent).

Florence + the Machine’s Dance Fever slips 1-2 in its second week, following its record-breaking debut. It sold a further 71,000 copies in its sophomore frame, marking a steep 70 percent decline in sales. However, when comapred to its pure sales bow of 126,000, sales are down just 44 percent. Dance has now been certified Platinum for selling over 300,000 copies, becoming the band’s fourth album to do so, following Ceremonials (Platinum); How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful (3 x Platinum); and High as Hope (2 x Platinum).

HAIM are down 2-3 with the chart-topping Women in Music Pt. III as it moves 55,000 units (down 4 percent).

Adele’s historic 30 moves down 3-4 following seventeen non-consecutive weeks at the top spot; it sold 51,000 units this week (down 7 percent). 30 is currently the bestselling album of 2022 (1.63 million); the 5th bestselling album of the decade (2.94 million); and is now the 6th bestselling album of all time as it passes Lana Del Rey’s Lust for Life (2.90 million). No.17 The Whole Story / Kate Bush’s 1986 best-of set has now become the first album by the British icon to sell more than 2 million copies. It is her bestselling collection to date, ahead of 1993’s The Red Shoes (1.06 million) which is her bestselling studio album.

Florence + the Machine EARN BIGGEST DEBUT OF 2022 WITH DANCE FEVER!

Plus: HAIM cross new milestone; Lana Del Rey makes history!

Florence + the Machine achieve the biggest opening of 2022 to date as their newest release Dance Fever debuts with a massive 230,000 units, comprising of 104,000 pre-sales and 126,000 pure sales. It breaks the record set by The Weeknd’s Dawn FM which opened to 130,000 in January. Note: Dawn still holds the record for the largest pure sales week of the year to date. Additionally, Dance nabs the biggest launch since Adele’s 30 sold a record 650,000 units in its first week in November.

Dance is the third chart-topping record from Florence + the Machine, and their fourth Top Five hit overall. It follows 2011’s Ceremonials (No.1 for three weeks); and 2018’s High as Hope (No.1 for one week); 2015’s How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful peaked at No.3 but would become the outfit’s bestselling album with sales of almost a million copies! High and Beautiful re-enter back to back at No.20 and No.21 this week, selling 12,000 each.

No.11 Sweetener / Ariana Grande’s bestselling effort rockets 37-11 selling 17,000 copies a week after celebrating a whopping three years inside the Weekly Top Fifty! The album has sold just over 2.25 million copies to date, and ranks as the 11th bestselling LP of all time.

No.17 The Whole Story / Kate Bush’s 1986 compilation album is her biggest hit by a country mile, having peaked at No.3 for seven weeks, and boasting total sales of just under 2 million copies. This week, the best-of set marks its 150th appearance on L.dK Weekly, becoming just the fourth album in history to achieve this, after Stevie Nicks’s Bella Donna (192 weeks); Annie Lennox’s Diva (172 weeks); and Grande’s Sweetener (157 weeks).

No.23 Crystal Visions – the Very Best of … / Stevie Nicks’s bestselling album has now become her first release to sell over 2.4 million copies, earning itself an 8 x Platinum certification! Only eight other albums have achieved this feat.

No.36 – Fearless (Taylor’s Version) – Taylor Swift’s first re-recorded LP became her fifth chart-topping album upon its release just over a year ago, and now becomes her fourth effort to be certified at least Triple Platinum, denoting sales of over 900,000 units.

No.44 – Rock a Little / Stevie Nicks’s third solo album has now been certified 5 x Platinum, with total sales of exactly 1.5 million copies. It is Nicks’s third album to achieve this, following 1981’s Bella Donna (7 x Platinum) and 2007’s Crystal Visions – the Very Best of Stevie Nicks (8 x Platinum).

Sigrid’s brand new Learn to Let Go premieres at the top spot after selling an impressive 74,000 copies in its opening stanza; it nabs the greatest sales week of the year since the week dated 21 February when Adele’s 30 sold 76,000 units. Let Go is the third successive chart-topper from the Norwegian hitmaker, following 2017’s Don’t Kill My Vibe – EP and 2019’s Sucker Punch; the latter re-enters this week at No.12 with 12,000 copies sold.

A trio of chart-topping albums round out the Top Ten: HAIM slip 2-3 with Women in Music Pt. No.23 Greatest Hits / Fleetwood Mac’s 1988 best-of set has now been certified 6 x Platinum for sales of over 1.8 million copies. The former chart-topper is the band’s second bestselling effort, behind only their 1977 magnum-opus Rumours which has sold just less than 2.1 million to date.

No.37 Sweetener / Ariana Grande’s fourth studio album has now become just the third record in history to spend a full three years (or 156 weeks) on the L.dK Weekly Charts! Adele tallies a seventeenth non-consecutive week at number-one as her juggernaut 30 sells a further 66,000 copies (up 10 percent). This reign matches the command of Taylor Swift’s folklore which also led for seventeen weeks between 2020 and 2021. Both albums trail Lana Del Rey’s Norman Fucking Rockwell! (twenty-five weeks) and Joni Mitchell’s Blue (twenty-one weeks) and are tied as the third longest-running number-one album of all time!

30 is currently the bestselling album of 2022 (1.46 million); the 5th bestselling album of the decade (2.77 million); and now the 7th bestselling album of all time, as it tops Annie Lennox’s Diva (2.73 million). It became the fastest-selling album ever upon its release in November (650,000 units) and set the record for the fastest album to sell 1 million (three weeks) and 2 million copies (12 weeks)!

No.21 Plastic Hearts / Miley Cyrus’s late-2020 release became her biggest career hit to date, spending two weeks at the top spot, and clocking up 75 charting weeks to date. The album has now made history as just the 19th album to sell more than 2 million copies!

No.46 Greatest Hits / Eurythmics earn their first charting hit on the L.dK Weekly Top Fifty as their 1991 compilation disc debuts with sales of 6,000 units following the announcement of their impending induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Adele regains control of the L.dk Weekly Top Fifty, pushing HAIM’s Women in Music Pt. III down to No.2 after a week at the summit. 30 sold 60,000 units this during the latest tracking period (up 3 percent) and has now spent a whopping sixteen weeks at the number-one spot – a figure surpassed only by Lana Del Rey’s Norman Fucking Rockwell! (twenty-five weeks); Joni Mitchell’s Blue (twenty-one weeks); and Taylor Swift’s folklore (seventeen weeks).
