Joni Mitchell crowns Top 50 for eighth week with Court and Spark!

Plus: Enya debuts at No.5 & Taylor Swift’s evermore re-enters Top Ten!

Joni Mitchell’s Court and Spark has now spent a total of eight non-consecutive weeks atop the L.dK Top 50, tying with Dua Lipa’s Future Nostalgia & Halsey’s If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power as the eighth longest-running number one album of all time. The hit sold 71,000 this week (down 1 percent).

Mitchell’s Hejira also lifts 8-7 for a new Top 50 peak, selling 24,000 this week (down 7 percent).

Three chart-topping hits follow inside the Top Five: Maggie Rogers sticks at No.2 with Surrender, selling 62,000 copies (even with last week); Elvis Presley repeats at No.3 on sales of 38,000 units (down 19 percent); and Adele’s 30 elevates 5-4 with 30,000 sold (down 12 percent).

Enya caps the Top Five as The Very Best of Enya premieres at No.5 with 30,000 copies sold. It marks the Irish singer’s first visit to the Top 50.

Kate Bush’s The Whole Story maintains its rank of No.6 (30,000 units – down 7 percent).

Two historic records from Taylor Swift rank back to back, with folklore falling 4-8 (23,000 units – down 47 percent), and evermore leaping 11-9 (23,000 units – up 4 percent).

Lana Del Rey’s Norman Fucking Rockwell! descends 7-10 as it logs a record-padding 131st week inside the Top Ten (20,000 units – down 29 percent).

Notable Moves in the Weekly Top 50

No.15 – Greatest Hits / Fleetwood Mac’s 1988 best-of set bolts 37-15 this week, following a Deep Discog Dive focused on the band. The collection sold 15,000 this week, and has sold 1.94 million to date.

No.16 – Don Juan’s Reckless Daughter / Joni Mitchell’s 1977 jazz piece became her latest Top Ten hit in August, reaching No.9, and now earns the singer-songwriter yet another Gold certification, having sold 108,000 to date.

No.37 – Bella Donna / Stevie Nicks’s debut solo album has now clocked up a record-breaking 208 weeks inside the Top 50. It is the first album in history to spend a full four years on the chart!

No.39 – Tango in the Night / Fleetwood Mac’s 1987 smash was the first album ever to reach No.1 on the L.dK Top 50, and was one of the biggest hits of 2017. Now, it has become the 53rd album to sell a million units, and the third by the Mac.

Joni Mitchell’s Court and Spark crosses a million sales!

Plus: Taylor Swift’s folklore returns to Top Five; Lana Del Rey’s Norman Fucking Rockwell! re-enters Top Ten!

Joni Mitchell’s Court and Spark collects a seventh non-consecutive term at the helm as it sells 72,000 in the latest tracking period (down 2 percent). It has now become just the second album to sell a million units during 2022, having shifted 1.032 million to date.

Mitchell appears once again in this week’s Top Ten as 1976’s Hejira bullets at its No.8 highpoint on sales of 26,000 copies (up 7 percent).

Two former chart-toppers follow in the Top Five: Maggie Rogers keeps at No.2 with Surrender, selling 62,000 copies (down 15 percent); and Elvis Presley holds at No.3 with Elvis 30 #1 Hits, moving 47,000 units (down 6 percent).

Taylor Swift’s folklore roars back into the Top Five this week thanks to the seasonal success of “August”, and the new announcement of Swift’s upcoming tenth studio album, Midnights – due October 21st. folklore sold 43,000 copies this week (up 115 percent) and has now become only the second album ever to sell more than 4.9 million copies.

Beyond the Top Ten, the rest of Swift’s catalogue makes gains: evermore springs 18-11 (22,000 units); Red (Taylor’s Version) leaps 27-16 (16,000 units)l; and reputation re-enters at No.42 (8,000 units). Lover also sold 5,000 this week, placing just outside the Top Fifty.

Adele rounds out the Top Five as 30 slips 4-5 with 34,000 sold (down 7 percent).

Kate Bush’s No.3-peaking The Whole Story reverses course 5-6 (32,000 sold – up 18 percent).

Lana Del Rey’s Norman Fucking Rockwell! returns to the Top Ten as it celebrates its three-year anniversary, surging 15-7 (28,000 units – up 82 percent). NFR! has now sold exactly 5.4 million copies, making it the first album in history to be certified 18 x Platinum!

Rounding out the Top Ten: Florence + the Machine’s Dance Fever sinks 7-9 (25,000 units – on par with last week), as HAIM’s Women in Music Pt. III tumbles 6-10 (23,000 units – down 15 percent).

No.20 – Greatest Hits / Red Hot Chilli Pepper’s make their first chart appearance as their best-of set premieres at No.20 with 13,000 copies sold.

Joni Mitchell wins back No.1 spot!

Court and Spark and Don Juan’s Reckless Daughter earn new certifications as does Elvis Presley.

Joni Mitchell’s Court and Spark swings 2-1 to log a sixth non-consecutive week at the number-one spot, selling 74,000 this week (up 5 percent). The album – currently the second longest-running chart-topper of 2022 – has now sold a whopping 960,000, making it only the third album to be certified Triple Platinum this year!

Court and Spark is one of three Mitchell albums inside this week’s Top Ten, as she also bullets at No.8 with Hejira (24,000 units – on par with last week); and ascends 10-9 for a new peak with Don Juan’s Reckless Daughter (21,000 units – up five percent). The latter album has now been certified Silver for selling over 60,000 copies,

Maggie Rogers falls to No.2 with Surrender after the album led for two weeks; it sold 73,000 this week (down 15 percent).

Elvis Presley’s chart-topping compilation Elvis 30 #1 Hits holds at No.3 in its fourth term, and passes sales of 300,000 copies, earning it a Platinum certification, thanks to weekly sales of 50,000 copies (down 8 percent).

Rounding out the Top Five: Adele’s 30 stays at No.4 after seventeen weeks at number-one, moving 36,000 copies (down 10 percent); and Kate Bush’s No.3-peaking The Whole Story lunges 6-5 on sales of 29,000 units (up 8 percent).

No.14 – Night Ride Home / Joni Mitchell’s 1991 LP has now sold over 60,000 copies, garnering it Silver status. It is Mitchells eighth album to do so, following Blue (7 x Platinum); Court and Spark (3 x Platinum); Clouds, Ladies of the Canyon, Hejira and Both Sides Now (Gold); and Don Juan’s Reckless Daughter (Silver).

No.15 – Norman Fucking Rockwell! / Lana Del Rey’s acclaimed sixth studio album has now collected a total of three years (or 156 weeks) inside the L.dK Weekly Top Fifty. Besides this accolade, NFR! is also the bestselling album of all time with sales of almost 5.4 million copies.

Maggie Rogers logs a second consecutive week at number-one on the L.dK Weekly Top Fifty with Surrender, as the album sells a furth 86,000 units in its third frame on sale (down 35 percent). The hit has now sold over 300,000, earning it a Platinum certification!

Court and Spark leads a pack of Joni Mitchell records in the Top Ten as it maintains its No.2 rank after spending five weeks in pole position, moving 70,000 copies (up 9 percent). Mitchell also ascends 10-8 for a new peak with Hejira (24,000 units – up 14 percent); and roars 29-10 with Don Juan’s Reckless Daughter (20,000 units – up 100 percent).

No.14 – Night Ride Home / Joni Mitchell’s 1991 album ascends 19-14 to a reach a new peak on the L.dK Weekly Top Fifty, selling 16,000 in the latest tracking week.

No.15 – 21 / Following Adele’s recent Las Vegas announcements and Elle magazine covers, her studio albums make inroads in the Top Fifty, with 21 leading the pack, surging up 33 spots to No.15 on sales of 15,000 units. 25 follows at No.19 (up from No.38) with 12,000 sold.

Maggie Rogers hits No.1 with Surrender!

Plus: Hits from Taylor Swift & Joni Mitchell re-enter Top Ten!

Singer-songwriter Maggie Rogers climbs to the top of the L.dK Weekly Top Fifty for the first time ever with her album Surrender, following its No.2 debut last week. The set moved 128,000 in its first seven days, and now achieves the rare feat of increasing in sales in its second week after debuting with over 100,000 copies sold (it moved 133,000 this week – up 4 percent). Only Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper’s A Star is Born and Stevie Nicks’s 24 Karat Gold: Songs from the Vault previously managed this over three years ago.

Surrender – the 86th album to crown the Weekly Top Fifty – earns the year’s biggest sales figure for a non-debut week, passing the 124,000 copies sold by Adele’s 30 in its sixth term in the first week of 2022.

Joni Mitchell’s Court and Spark rebounds 3-2 after spending five weeks at the summit, swelling by 3 percent to 64,000 sold. Mitchell also places at No.10 this week as her No.9-peaking Hejira recovers 12-10 on sales of 23,000 copies (up 9 percent).

Capping the Top Five: Elvis Presley’s Elvis 30 #1 Hits slides from No.1 to No.3 in its second week with 55,000 sold (down 63 percent); Adele’s 30 lifts 5-4 on sales of 37,000 units (even with last week); and HAIM’s Women in Music Pt. III elevates 7-5 with 28,000 sold (down 7 percent).

No.20 – Chromatica / Lady Gaga’s sixth studio album spent (fittingly) six weeks at number-one over the Summer of 2020, and has since logged 66 weeks inside the Top Fifty. This week, it becomes Gaga’s second release to be certified 7 x Platinum (2.1 million), after A Star is Born (12 x Platinum).

No.34 – Renaissance / Beyonce’s latest offering earns a Silver certification in its second term for selling over 60,000 copies, despite registering one of the largest single-week drops in the chart’s history.

No.39 The Collection / Alanis Morissette’s 2005 best-of was one of 2020’s biggest hits, and has sold over 2.54 million copies todate, making it the 10th bestselling album of all time. This week, it logs its 104th appearance inside the Top Fifty; equal to a full two years on the chart! Collection is the 20th LP to achieve this feat.

Elvis Presely roars to No.1!

Plus: Maggie Rogers & Beyonce debut in Top Five!

Elvis Presely crowns the Weekly Top Fifty in his first visit to the ranking as Elvis 30 #1 Hits launches in pole position, selling 142,000 units. Elvis is the 85th album to reach the top spot, and earns the greatest sales week since the chart dated 30 May, when Harry Styles’s Harry’s House debuted with 274,000 sold.

Maggie Rogers – another newcomer to the Top Fifty – scores the second highest start of the week as Surrender soars to a No.2 start on sales of 128,000 copies. This week marks the first instance since January where the top two albums have each sold more than 100,000 copies; this last occurred when The Weeknd’s Dawn FM opened ontop with 130,000 sold, and Adele’s 30 slipped to No.2 with 128,000 sold.

Joni Mitchell’s Court and Spark falls to No.3 after a total of five weeks at number-one, dipping by 16 pecent to 62,000 sold.

Beyonce’s latest studio album Renaissance bows at No.4 with a combined total of 58,000 units, comprising of 24,000 pure sales and a further 34,000 pre-sales derived from singles released prior to the album. It marks the star’s third consecutive Top Five hit following Beyonce and Lemonade which both reached No.2.

Adele caps the Top Five with 30 (down from No.3), selling 37,000 copies (down 7 percent).

Outside the Top Five: Lizzo’s chart-topping Special dives 2-6 (33,000 units – down 25 percent); HAIM’s Women in Music Pt. No.13 – Seventeen Going Under / Sam Fender’s sophomore release became the longest-running album ever by a male solo artist when it topped the rundown for four weeks earlier this year. Now, it becomes just the fourth album by a male solo artist to be certified Triple Platinum for selling over 900,000 copies. It joins Harry Styles’s Fine Line (1.64 million); The Weeknd’s After Hours (1.49 million); and Troye Sivan’s Bloom (931,000).

No.19 – Direct Hits / The Killer’s compilation effort has now sold over 300,000 units, earning it a Platinum certification.

No.34 – Collapsed in Sunbeams / Arlo Parks’s debut album was a moderate success in 2021, ranking as the No.97 album for that year, but has truly exploded in success in 2022, having now sold over 600,000 to date, becoming the artist’s first Multi-Platinum record.

No.39 – 25 / Adele’s third studio album is one of the most successful albums of all time by all metrics, having peaked at No.2 in multiple different years while selling 2.2 million to date. Now, 25 celebrates a whopping three years inside the L.dK Weekly Top Fifty! Joni Mitchell returns to the No.1 spot!

As Mitchell returns to No.1 with Court and Spark, she also hits the Top Ten with Hejira!

Joni Mitchell’s Court and Spark bounces back to No.1 for a fifth non-consecutive week at the summit, selling 74,000 copies this week (up 1 percent). Court is now the second longest-running chart-topper of 2022 to date; only Adele’s 30 has spent more time in pole position, leading for a staggering twelve weeks.

Mitchell doubles up in the Top Ten this week as her 1976 album Hejira enters the region for the first time, jumping 12-9 on sales of 25,000 copies (up 31 percent). Hejira is the singer-songwriter’s fifth album to hit the Top Ten, following Blue (No.1 for twenty-one weeks); Court; A Song to a Seagull (No.2); and Clouds (No.3).

Further down the list, two of her late-career albums also make appearances, as Don Juan’s Reckless Daughter starts at No.18, and Night Ride Home opens at No.24. Mitchell’s chart history is as follows:

Lizzo scores first number-one album with Special!

Lizzo nabs her first ever number-one album on the L.dK Weekly Top Fifty as Special premiers at the top spot with first-week sales of 101,000 units – this figure is comprised of 97,000 pure sales and a further 4,000 pre-sales derived from singles released prior to the album. Special is the 84th album to hit the top spot on L.dK Weekly, and earns the greatest sales week since the week dated 06 June when Harry Styles’s Harry’s House sold 106,000 in its sophomore frame.

Joni Mitchell’s Court and Spark retreats to No.2 after a total of four weeks in pole position, selling 73,000 units (down 14 percent). The jazz-inflected album has now been certified Double Platinum for selling over 600,000 units in just eight weeks. It is Mitchell’s second release to achieve Multi-Platinum status, following Blue which has been certified 7 x Platinum to date.

Adele’s historic 30 sinks 2-3, moving a further 40,000 copies (down 8 percent) as it becomes only the sixth album in history to be certified at least 11 x Platinum, denoting sales exceeding 3.3 million units. 30 currently ranks as the sixth bestselling album of all time on sales of 3.30 million, just behind Dua Lipa’s Future Nostalgia which has racked up sales of 3.34 million since its 2020 release.

Sam Fender roars back into the Top Five for the first time since the chart dated 16 May as Seventeen Going Under blasts 10-4, selling 35,000 copies (up 75 percent) following the release of new single “Alright”.

Rounding out the Top Five: Conan Gray’s No.4-peaking Superache ticks 6-5 in its fourth week on sales of 33,000 copies (up 6 percent).

No.18 – Chromatica / As Lady Gaga kicks off her Chromatica Ball, her 2020 album of the same name re-enters at No.18 selling 14,000 copies, nabbing its 63rd week on the tally. Chromatica spent six weeks at number-one in 2020 and has since sold 2.06 million copies.

No.19 – folklore / Taylor Swift’s blockbuster became a mega-hit in 2020, and has continued to sell well ever since, racking up lifetime sales of 4.75 million to become the second bestselling album ever released. It now adds another accolade as it becomes the 19th album to spend a full two years inside the Top Fifty.

No.20 – Boys for Pele / Tori Amos’s third studio album descends 16-20 after peaking at No.15, moving 13,000 copies. The album is now certified Gold for selling over 100,000 units, becoming Amos’s third album to achieve this, following Little Earthquakes (4 x Platinum); Under the Pink (Platinum); and Ocean to Ocean (Gold).

No.22 – The Red Shoes / Kate Bush’s 1993 album becomes her first studio album to be certified 4 x Platinum for selling over 1.2 million copies.

No.30 Chemtrails Over the Country Club / Lana Del Rey’s followup to the record-breaking Norman Fucking Rockwell! has now sold a whopping 2 million units since its release in March 2021. This makes Lana Del Rey the first artist ever to achieve three multi-million selling albums; NFR! has sold 5.28 million, and Lust for Life has moved 2.92 million. Del Rey passes Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Adele, Annie Lennox and Stevie Nicks, who all boast two multi-million sellers.

Joni Mitchell logs full month at No.1 with Court and Spark!

Plus: Kate Bush & HAIM sell a million copies; Conan Gray goes Gold; Lana Del Rey & Sam Fender re-enter Top Ten!

Joni Mitchell’s tallies a fourth non-consecutive week at No.1 on the L.dK Weekly Top Fifty with her 1974 record Court and Spark. The album sold 85,000 this week (up 18 percent) and has now sold over half a million copies since its retrospective release in late May. With an impressive four weeks in pole position, Spark ties Sam Fender’s Seventeen Going Under as the second longest-running number-one album of 2022; both albums trail Adele’s 30 which has ruled the rundown for a total of twelve weeks since the beginning of the annum.

Adele’s 30 holds at No.2 selling a further 44,000 copies (down 15 percent).

Kate Bush holds steady at No.3 with her two-week-leader Hounds of Love, moving 37,000 units (down 22 percent). The alternative masterpiece has now become Bush’s third album to sell over a million copies, following The Whole Story (2.17 million) and The Red Shoes (1.19 million). Bush’s The Sensual World is also a non-mover at No.8 this week (20,000 units – down 8 percent).

HAIM’s chart-topping Women in Music Pt. III elevates 5-4 with 36,000 sold (down 5 percent). The pop-rock set has now surpassed a million in combined sales since its release in the Summer of 2020.

Capping the Top Five: Harry Styles’s Harry’s House slides 4-5 after two weeks at the top spot, selling 33,000 copies (down 18 percent).

Outside the Top Five: Conan Gray’s newly-Gold-plated Superache holds at No.6 in its third week after debuting at No.4 (31,000 units – down 14 percent); Florence + the Machine’s Dance Fever strengthens at No.7 (26,000 units – up 4 percent); Lana Del Rey’s Norman Fucking Rockwell! moves 13-9 for a record-padding 129th week inside the Top Ten (20,000 units – even with last week); and Sam Fender’s Seventeen Going Under rebounds 11-10 (20,000 units – down 4 percent).

Onto Next Week: Joni Mitchell’s Court and Spark should be on track for a fourth week at the summit, likely with sales of over 70,000 units. Lizzo’s Special could debut inside the Top Five with upwards of 30,000 sold.

No.14 Hejira / Joni Mitchell’s 1976 album pays its first visit to the L.dK Weekly Top Fifty as it premieres at No.14 selling 17,000 copies. The album is Mitchell’s seventh consecutive Top Twenty hit, following Blue (No.1 for twenty-one weeks); Court and Spark (No.1 for four weeks so far); Song to a Seagull (No.2); Clouds (No.3); Both Sides Now (No.12); Blue 50 – Demos & Outtakes (No.13); and Ladies of the Canyon (No.20).

No.29 – Aerial / Kate Bush’s 2005 double album has now become her sixth Platinum-certified hit, following The Whole Story (7 x Platinum); The Red Shoes, Hounds of Love & The Sensual World (3 x Platinum); and Never for Ever (Platinum).

No.30 – Plastic Hearts / Miley Cyrus’s late-2020 smash hit has now become the seventeenth album in history to sell over 2.1 million copies to be certified 7 x Platinum!

No.37 Bella Donna / Stevie Nicks’s solo debut album makes history this week as it becomes the first album ever to spend a whole 200 weeks inside the Weekly Top Fifty! The iconic LP could soon become the first to spend a full four years (208 weeks) on the chart.

Joni Mitchell spends third week at No.1 with Court and Spark!

Plus: Adele surges to No.2 following Hyde Park!

Joni Mitchell’s Court and Spark crowns the L.dK Weekly Top Fifty for a third non-consecutive week, selling 72,000 copies (down 4 percent). Court is now the third longest-running number-one album of 2022 to date, following Adele’s 30 (twelve weeks) and Sam Fender’s Seventeen Going Under (four weeks).

Speaking of 30… that album bolts 5-2 on this week’s chart in the wake of Adele’s two performances at Hyde Park over the weekend. 30 sold 51,000 this week (up 24 percent) and has now sold 3.22 million copies to date. Adele’s twpo previous studio albums, 25 and 21, climb 43-31 and re-enter at No.41 respectively.

Kate Bush’s Hounds of Love descends 2-3 after spending two weeks in pole position, selling 45,000 copies this week (down 22 percent). Bush also moves 10-8 with the newly Triple-Platinum-certified hit The Sensual World (22,000 units – down 8 percent); and rises 11-10 with The Whole Story (21,000 units – down 8 percent).

Harry Styles moves down 3-4 this week with his chart-topping third LP, Harry’s House. The album sold 40,000 units this week (down 13 percent).

HAIM round out the Top Five this week as Women in Music Pt. III lifts 6-5 on sales of 38,000 copies (down 3 percent).

Outside the Top Five: Conan Gray’s Superache slides 4-6 in its second week (37,000 units – down 16 percent); Florence + the Machine’s Dance Fever ticks 8-7 after debuting at No.1 in May (25,000 units – down 4 percent); and Regina Spektor’s Home, Before and After falls from its No.7 highpoint to No.9 (22,000 units – down 27 percent).

No.30 – Bloom / Troye Sivan’s sophomore studio album has now been certified Triple Platinum for selling over 900,000 copies. The album debuted at No.1 upon its release in Summer 2018, and has since charted for a total of 86 weeks.

No.34 – The Best of … So Far / The Kooks’s compilation album has now been certified Gold for selling over 100,000 units. The best-of set has peaked at No.28 so far.
