JANET JACKSON REPLACES HERSELF ATOP THE TOP 50!

As Jackson’s self-titled set ascends to the throne, Taylor Swift’s folklore re-enters Top Ten!
Janet Jackson’s 1993 self-titled record blasts 12-1, selling 74,000 copies (up 311 percent), becoming the 97th album in the chart’s history, and earning the singer her second consecutive chart-topping album. It also makes Jackson joins Taylor Swift & Fleetwood Mac as the only artists to ever replace themselves atop the Weekly Top 50.

The R&B piece topples two-week-leader Rhythm Nation 1814, which slides to No.4 on sales of 44,000 copies (down 41 percent).
Lana Del Rey’s Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd holds at No.2 after a total of six weeks at number-one, shifting 67,000 copies (up 5 percent).
Jessie Ware’s four-week-ruler That! Feels Good! is unmoved at No.3 with 46,000 copies sold (down 2 percent).
Beyonce’s RENAISSANCE rounds out the Top Five, steady at No.5 on sales of 31,000 copies (down 3 percent).
Outside the Top Five: Arlo Parks’s two-week-leader My Soft Machine slides 4-6 (29,000 units – down 24 percent); Joni Mitchell’s Court and Spark steps down 6-7 after twelve weeks in pole position (28,000 units – down 3 percent); and Tina Turner’s No.4-peaking Private Dancer retreats 7-8 (24,000 units – down 3 percent).
Outside the Top 5: Joni Mitchell’s twelve-week-chart-topper Court and Spark is a non-mover at No.6 (29,000 units – down 3 percent); Tina Turner’s No.4-peaking Private Dancer rebounds 8-7 (25,000 units – up 8 percent); and Adele’s seventeen-week-ruler 30 slips 7-8 (24,000 units – down 7 percent).
Taylor Swift’s chart-topping folklore celebrates its first Top Ten showing since January as it shoots 13-9 on sales of 23,000 copies (up 35 percent). It breaks its tie with Swift’s own evermore to become the 2nd longest-running Top Ten album ever, with 92 weeks in the region – only Del Rey’s Norman Fucking Rockwell! (152 weeks), tops this.
Capping the Top Ten, Adele’s 30 dips 8-10 (22,000 units – down 8 percent). The album previously spent a whopping seventeen weeks at the top spot.
Onto Next Week: Taylor Swift’s Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) looks set to claim the number-one spot with sales of over 100,000 copies. It could mark Swift’s record-padding eighth number-one album.

Notable Moves in the Weekly Top 50
No.16 – The Velvet Rope / Janet Jackson’s 1997 hip-hop infused album has now been certified Silver for selling over 60,000 copies to date. It previously peaked at No.13 in June.
No.22 – Blue Neighbourhood / Troye Sivan’s debut studio album re-enters the Weekly Top 50 for the first time since 2017 following the announcement of new single – ‘RUSH’, coming July 14th. 2018’s chart-topping Bloom returns at No.36 this week, marking its 111th appearance.
No.30 – Control / Janet Jackson’s third studio album climbs two spots for a new peak this week.
No.32 – Hejira / Joni Mitchell’s 1976 album – her ode to the open road – has now become her third release to spend a full year on the Top 50, following Blue (123 weeks), and Court and Spark (58). Hejira peaked at No.6 in 2022 and has since sold 970,000 copies.
No.33 – Ultraviolence / Lana Del Rey’s sophomore album has now sold over 600,000 units, meaning that her entire discography has now been certified Multi-Platinum!
No.46 – Midnights / Taylor Swift’s late-2022 smash hit is the first album released since Adele’s 30 to sell over 2 million copies! It is Swift’s third LP to reach this milestone, meaning she ties with Lana Del Rey for the most multi-million-selling albums. Midnights currently stands as the 27th bestselling album of all time.
