JANET JACKSON’S RHYTHM NATION 1814 THUNDERS TO NO.1!

Jackson unseats Lana Del Rey and scores her first chart-topper in the process.

Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation 1814 roars 5-1 in just its third week on the L.dK Weekly Top 50, becoming the 96th album to top the chart. It sold 70,000 copies in the latest tracking week, surging by 100 percent from the previous period.

1814 also becomes the singer’s first certified album, having been awarded Gold status for selling over 100,000 units.

Lana Del Rey’s Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd falls to No.2 after a total of six weeks in pole position, selling 63,000 copies (down 15 percent). Del Rey’s Norman Fucking Rockwell! is a non-mover at No.10 with 20,000 sold (even with last week) as it logs a record-padding 150th week inside the Top Ten!

Jessie Ware’s That! Feels Good! holds at No.3 with 48,000 sold (down 18 percent) after three weeks at the summit; Arlo Parks’s chart-topping My Soft Machine drops 2-4 on sales of 43,000 copies (down 31 percent).

Outside the Top Five: Joni Mitchell’s twelve-week-leader Court and Spark holds at No.6 (30,000 units – down 9 percent); Adele’s seventeen-week-ruler 30 stays at No.7 (26,000 units – up 3 percent); Tina Turner’s No.4-peaking Private Dancer sticks at No.8 (23,000 units – down 8 percent); and Caroline Polachek’s No.2-peaking Desire, I Want to Turn Into You is unmoved at No.9 (21,000 sold – on par with last week).

Onto Next Week: Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation 1814 looks likely to score a second week at the top spot with over 60,000 units sold.

No.13 – The Velvet Rope / Janet Jackson’s 1997 studio album soars to a new peak this week, earning the icon her third Top 20 hit in as many weeks. Her 1993 self-titled set continues at its No.12 peak, while 2001’s All For You rises 22-21 for a new peak position.
