Joni Mitchell’s Court and Spark crosses a million sales!

Plus: Taylor Swift’s folklore returns to Top Five; Lana Del Rey’s Norman Fucking Rockwell! re-enters Top Ten!
Joni Mitchell’s Court and Spark collects a seventh non-consecutive term at the helm as it sells 72,000 in the latest tracking period (down 2 percent). It has now become just the second album to sell a million units during 2022, having shifted 1.032 million to date.
Mitchell appears once again in this week’s Top Ten as 1976’s Hejira bullets at its No.8 highpoint on sales of 26,000 copies (up 7 percent).
Two former chart-toppers follow in the Top Five: Maggie Rogers keeps at No.2 with Surrender, selling 62,000 copies (down 15 percent); and Elvis Presley holds at No.3 with Elvis 30 #1 Hits, moving 47,000 units (down 6 percent).
Taylor Swift’s folklore roars back into the Top Five this week thanks to the seasonal success of “August”, and the new announcement of Swift’s upcoming tenth studio album, Midnights – due October 21st. folklore sold 43,000 copies this week (up 115 percent) and has now become only the second album ever to sell more than 4.9 million copies.
Beyond the Top Ten, the rest of Swift’s catalogue makes gains: evermore springs 18-11 (22,000 units); Red (Taylor’s Version) leaps 27-16 (16,000 units)l; and reputation re-enters at No.42 (8,000 units). Lover also sold 5,000 this week, placing just outside the Top Fifty.
Adele rounds out the Top Five as 30 slips 4-5 with 34,000 sold (down 7 percent).
Kate Bush’s No.3-peaking The Whole Story reverses course 5-6 (32,000 sold – up 18 percent).
Lana Del Rey’s Norman Fucking Rockwell! returns to the Top Ten as it celebrates its three-year anniversary, surging 15-7 (28,000 units – up 82 percent). NFR! has now sold exactly 5.4 million copies, making it the first album in history to be certified 18 x Platinum!
Rounding out the Top Ten: Florence + the Machine’s Dance Fever sinks 7-9 (25,000 units – on par with last week), as HAIM’s Women in Music Pt. III tumbles 6-10 (23,000 units – down 15 percent).
Onto Next Week: Joni Mitchell’s Court and Spark should be headed for an eighth week in command, with sales of over 60,000 units.

Notable Moves in the Weekly Top 50
No.17 – The Best of … So Far / The Kooks reach a new highpoint with their compilation set as it rockets 38-17 with 15,000 sold, passing its prior peak of No.28. The best-of disc has sold over 160,000 to date.
No.20 – Greatest Hits / Red Hot Chilli Pepper’s make their first chart appearance as their best-of set premieres at No.20 with 13,000 copies sold.
No.45 – The Sensual World / Kate Bush’s 1989 release has now become her fourth record to sell more than a million copies, following The Whole Story (2.33 million); The Red Shoes (1.25 million); and Hounds of Love (1.12 million).
