Joni Mitchell wins back No.1 spot!

Court and Spark and Don Juan’s Reckless Daughter earn new certifications as does Elvis Presley.

Joni Mitchell’s Court and Spark swings 2-1 to log a sixth non-consecutive week at the number-one spot, selling 74,000 this week (up 5 percent). The album – currently the second longest-running chart-topper of 2022 – has now sold a whopping 960,000, making it only the third album to be certified Triple Platinum this year!

Court and Spark is one of three Mitchell albums inside this week’s Top Ten, as she also bullets at No.8 with Hejira (24,000 units – on par with last week); and ascends 10-9 for a new peak with Don Juan’s Reckless Daughter (21,000 units – up five percent). The latter album has now been certified Silver for selling over 60,000 copies,

Maggie Rogers falls to No.2 with Surrender after the album led for two weeks; it sold 73,000 this week (down 15 percent).

Elvis Presley’s chart-topping compilation Elvis 30 #1 Hits holds at No.3 in its fourth term, and passes sales of 300,000 copies, earning it a Platinum certification, thanks to weekly sales of 50,000 copies (down 8 percent).

Rounding out the Top Five: Adele’s 30 stays at No.4 after seventeen weeks at number-one, moving 36,000 copies (down 10 percent); and Kate Bush’s No.3-peaking The Whole Story lunges 6-5 on sales of 29,000 units (up 8 percent).

Beyond the Top Five: HAIM’s chart-topping Women in Music Pt. III drops 5-6 (26,000 units – down 7 percent); Florence + the Machine’s one-week-leader Dance Fever gains at No.7 (25,000 units – up 4 percent); and Taylor Swift’s folklore rolls 12-10 (20,000 units – up 6 percent).

Onto Next Week: Joni Mitchell’s Court and Spark should be headed for a seventh week in command, with sales of over 70,000 units.

Notable Moves in the Weekly Top 50

No.11 – Viva Las Vengeance / Panic! At the Disco’s latest offering debuts at No.11 with first-week sales of 19,000 copies. It marks the band’s seventh Top Twenty hit, but ties A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out as their lowest-charting release.

No.14 – Night Ride Home / Joni Mitchell’s 1991 LP has now sold over 60,000 copies, garnering it Silver status. It is Mitchells eighth album to do so, following Blue (7 x Platinum); Court and Spark (3 x Platinum); Clouds, Ladies of the Canyon, Hejira and Both Sides Now (Gold); and Don Juan’s Reckless Daughter (Silver).

No.15 – Norman Fucking Rockwell! / Lana Del Rey’s acclaimed sixth studio album has now collected a total of three years (or 156 weeks) inside the L.dK Weekly Top Fifty. Besides this accolade, NFR! is also the bestselling album of all time with sales of almost 5.4 million copies.

No.31 Turbulent Indigo / Joni Mitchell nabs her 11th career entry as her 1994 release bows with 10,000 sold in its first week.
