Maggie Rogers hits No.1 with Surrender!

Plus: Hits from Taylor Swift & Joni Mitchell re-enter Top Ten!

Singer-songwriter Maggie Rogers climbs to the top of the L.dK Weekly Top Fifty for the first time ever with her album Surrender, following its No.2 debut last week. The set moved 128,000 in its first seven days, and now achieves the rare feat of increasing in sales in its second week after debuting with over 100,000 copies sold (it moved 133,000 this week – up 4 percent). Only Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper’s A Star is Born and Stevie Nicks’s 24 Karat Gold: Songs from the Vault previously managed this over three years ago.

Surrender – the 86th album to crown the Weekly Top Fifty – earns the year’s biggest sales figure for a non-debut week, passing the 124,000 copies sold by Adele’s 30 in its sixth term in the first week of 2022.

Joni Mitchell’s Court and Spark rebounds 3-2 after spending five weeks at the summit, swelling by 3 percent to 64,000 sold. Mitchell also places at No.10 this week as her No.9-peaking Hejira recovers 12-10 on sales of 23,000 copies (up 9 percent).

Capping the Top Five: Elvis Presley’s Elvis 30 #1 Hits slides from No.1 to No.3 in its second week with 55,000 sold (down 63 percent); Adele’s 30 lifts 5-4 on sales of 37,000 units (even with last week); and HAIM’s Women in Music Pt. III elevates 7-5 with 28,000 sold (down 7 percent).

Outside the Top Five: Kate Bush’s The Whole Story improves 8-6 (26,000 units – down 10 percent); Lizzo’s Special steps down 6-7 (25,000 units – down 22 percent); Florence + the Machine’s Dance Fever reverses course 10-8 (24,000 units – on par with last week).

Finally, Taylor Swift’s folklore pushes 12-9 (24,000 units – up 14 percent), outpacing the aforementioned Hejira at No.10.

Onto Next Week: Maggie Roger’s Surrender seems a sure-bet for a second week in charge, likely with sales of over 100,000 units for a third frame in a row.

No.39 The Collection / Alanis Morissette’s 2005 best-of was one of 2020’s biggest hits, and has sold over 2.54 million copies todate, making it the 10th bestselling album of all time.
