ADELE STILL NO.1 WITH 30!

Plus: Taylor Swift’s folklore & evermore re-enter Top Ten!

Adele tallies a seventeenth non-consecutive week at number-one as her juggernaut 30 sells a further 66,000 copies (up 10 percent). This reign matches the command of Taylor Swift’s folklore which also led for seventeen weeks between 2020 and 2021. Both albums trail Lana Del Rey’s Norman Fucking Rockwell! (twenty-five weeks) and Joni Mitchell’s Blue (twenty-one weeks) and are tied as the third longest-running number-one album of all time!

30 is currently the bestselling album of 2022 (1.46 million); the 5th bestselling album of the decade (2.77 million); and now the 7th bestselling album of all time, as it tops Annie Lennox’s Diva (2.73 million). It became the fastest-selling album ever upon its release in November (650,000 units) and set the record for the fastest album to sell 1 million (three weeks) and 2 million copies (12 weeks)!

The rest of the Top Five remains stationary from last week: HAIM retain are at No.2 as Women in Music Pt. III moves a further 55,000 units (down 5 percent) two weeks after rocketing to No.1 for the first time; Sam Fender is at No.3 with four-week-leader Seventeen Going Under on sales of 34,000 units (down 11 percent); Tracy Chapman’s chart-topping self-titled takes the No.4 spot with 30,000 sold (down 6 percent); finally, Lana Del Rey’s Blue Banisters holds at No.5, selling 23,000 copies (even with last week) after spending three weeks at the top spot last year. Del Rey is also at No.9 with NFR! (19,000 units – on par with last week) as it adds a record-extending 126th week inside the Top Ten!

Outside the Top Five: Joni Mitchell ascends 7-6 with the iconic Blue (22,000 units – up 4 percent); and Cher’s If I Could Turn Back Time acends 8-7 for a new peak position (21,000 units – up 5 percent).

Taylor Swift nabs two spots inside the Top Ten this week, with folklore (at No.8 on 20,000 sales, up from No.11) and evermore (at No.10 on 19,000 sales, up from No.13). The latter album has now sold a whopping 3.604 million copies since its release in December 2020, making it just the fourth album in history to sell as many copies; notably, it is Swift’s second, as folklore has sold over 4.5 million to date.

Onto Next Week: Adele’s 30 looks to be in contention for a seventeenth cumulative week at the top spot, currently aiming for a sales week of 60 – 65k units. Sigrid’s sophomore studio album How to Let Go is also gunning for a Top Five start, currently tracking to move 30 – 40k units.
