Blue Banisters reigns for a third week; Taylor Swift & Adele double up in Top Ten!
Lana Del Rey tightens her grip on the No.1 spot this week as Blue Banisters sells another 141,000 copies (swelling by fifteen percent from last week’s take of 122,000 units).
To date, the blockbuster has sold 530,000 units – it has already become the __th bestselling album of 2021 to date.
By notching a third week at the top with Blue, Del Rey becomes the first artist in history to spend forty-seven weeks atop the L.dK Weekly Charts. Her list of chart-topping records is as follows:
- Twenty-four weeks – Norman Fucking Rockwell!
- Eleven weeks – Lust for Life
- Nine weeks – Chemtrails Over the Country Club
- Three weeks – Blue Banisters
Del Rey’s Norman Fucking Rockwell! meanwhile sinks 7-8 on sales of 18,000 units (down five percent) in its record-padding 108th week in the Top Ten!
Taylor Swift’s evermore remains at No.2 with 35,000 copies sold (down three percent); Swift also falls 4-5 with seventeen-week ruler folklore, moving 25,000 units (up eight percent).
Joni Mitchell’s Blue jumps 5-3, increasing by twenty-seven percent to 28,000 copies sold.
Adele’s 25 returns to the Top Five as it reounds 6-4. The juggernaut sold 27,000 units this week (up forty-two percent) amidst growing anticipation for the singer’s upcoming fourth album 30 – due Nov. 19.
In-fact, the British star’s entire catalogue rises on this week’s list: 21 re-enters the Top Ten at No.7 (up from No.12) selling 18,000 copies (up twenty-eight percent); and 19 soars 21-11 moving 15,000 units (up fifty percent).
Outside the Top Five: Tori Amos’s Ocean to Ocean descends 3-6 in its second week (23,000 units – down twenty-six percent) while Miley Cyrus’s two-week-leader Plastic Hearts retreats 8-9 (18,000 units – even with last week).
Capping the Top Ten: Kate Bush’s The Whole Story bumps 11-10 (16,000 units – up fourteen percent) to nab a fifty-seventh frame in the Top Ten.
Onto Next Week: Taylor Swift and Lana Del Rey are set to go head-to-head for the crown next week with Swift’s Red (Taylor’s Version) projected to move upwards of 100,000 units in its debut week. Banisters should pull in a similar figure, barring an unexpected sales decline.
Notable Moves on the Weekly Top 50
No.26 – The Lion and the Cobra / The debut album from Irish singer-songwriter Sinead o’Connor earns the highest debut of the week as it opens at No.26 with first-week sales of 10,000 copies.
No.49 – Lust for Life / Lana Del Rey’s record-breaking 2017 album returns to the Top 50 at No.49 this week selling 5,000 copies. With this re-entry it notches a 104th week on the chart, becoming just the twelfth album in history to spend two full years on L.dK Weekly! Del Rey is just the second artist to achieve this with two albums, having also done so with Norman Fucking Rockwell! (115 weeks); Stevie Nicks also boasts two albums to have spent at least two years on the list: Bella Donna (165 weeks) and Rock a Little (112 weeks).
